After
a year on 3rd trombone in grade school in Hugo, Oklahoma, Jerry's
family moved to Wilburton. When he showed up at band the first day
of school, the director asked what instrument he played...
"DRUMS," was
his immediate response, and he hasn't looked back since.
Studying traditional
percussion at Wilburton, Lawton and Sulphur, Jerry's attention to rhythmic
detail earned him the position of Drum Major for Sulphur
High's 1978 year, as well as entry into "Who's Who in American
Music Students." A year of classical percussion at Oklahoma City
University under Kay Dean Walker kept him busy until playing in local rock, country and blues bands demanded too much of his time.
Oklahoma bands
The Enemy, Greyhaven,
Rocker, Billy Myers, the PTA, Phoenix Nights, Doc
Blues Revue, The Cutting Edge, Mike
Black & the Stingrays, WFO and EarCandy have all benefited from Jerry's extraordinary rhythm and vocals.
